Doris moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee in 2012 after spending many years in Chicago, Illinois and then Southeastern Ohio. She is originally from Kentucky.
This award-winning artist currently has works in public and private collections in Illinois, Ohio, New York, Rhode Island, West Virginia, Tennessee, Florida, and California. In Chicago, she exhibited in rotating collections in the greater Chicago area through the DuPage Art League. In West Virginia, she exhibited at the Parkersburg Art Center where she had a solo show. In Ohio, she exhibited for the Community Art Alliance at Barnesville, where she won the Outstanding Still Life award, and she also exhibited for the Monroe Arts Council. Her paintings are in permanent collections at Washington State Community College in Marietta and at the Monroe County Library. In Florida, she has exhibited at the Daytona Art League, where she is also a member, and was part of a five-person show there in 2009.
Doris began her formal art studies at Indiana State University in Terre Haute and continued at the DuPage Art League in Wheaton, Illinois. She received an Associate Degree in Art and General Business from Washington State Community College in Marietta, Ohio. Her teachers have included J. Daniel McMannis III, Barbara Perrotti, Deborah Elmquist, John Naylor, and Stacy Barter. She has taught classes in Chinese brush technique, oils, and watercolors, as well as children’s classes in drawing and mixed media. Doris’s still life paintings are known for their clear, crisp colors, and she strives to capture the precise quality of light in all of her work.
